I want to double major in history or foreign language and science (probably biology). However if I had to choose I would declare history or foreign lang. as my major over bio. The problem is that my counselor told me the school might think I’m lying because I don’t have activities that relate to foreign language and history, though I have some that relate to science (animal shelter, red cross stuff). I’m really worried! Would the admissions officers really think I’m lying? I have taken 5 years of Japanese and am the secretary of a Japanese club. However I want to major in Italian or Classical studies, neither of which my high school offers classes for. I have taken AP Japanese and history classes though and got good scores so I don’t know. Any thoughts?
They would not think you’re lying.
The negative is that if you don’t have a demonstrated record of activities/ECs in the field in which you claim to want to major, it can look a little shady. But I don’t think adcoms pay too much attention to what you declare–they know it is liable to change.
Some colleges don’t admit you for a certain major. They just admit you and you declare after you get in and start taking classes.
