Worried About Wharton

Ideally, i would like to get into wharton.

However, if that’s not possible, i would still like to major in Economics at Penn.

Since i can only sign up for one (either wharton or college) on the apps, i was wondering how many ppl wharton takes per year vs the college.

Is Wharton much harder to get into? And does the admissions process for wharton still weigh the same things that the college process weighs?

My GPA is a little on the low side for Wharton applicants, but i think i’ll have strong recs and decent essays.

I only get 1 shot tho, either ED to college or ED to wharton. So if imy chance of getting into wharton is very low i’d rather apply to the college.

i think you need to put up some details for anyone to give you a better idea. you can PM me if you want too.

Lol, I wouldn't talk to stam...he is applying just like the rest of us and he's a tough critic now that he got some spiffy SATs, lol!

here are my stats:

Academic GPA (10-12): 4.26 (Weighted) 3.52 (Non Weighted)
(9-12): 4.25 (Weighted) 3.53 (Non Weighted)

Scores:
PSAT: 237, national merit semifinalist presently, applying to be a finalist
SAT1: Math 800, Verbal 770, Writing 770, Total 2340
SAT2: US Hist 800, Math 2C 800, Biology Eco 800

5 AP tests all 5. Expecting to take 5 more in May 2006.

My school doesnt rank but im around top 20%.

However, my high school is a magnet tech school ranked #2 in the nation. Therefore, classes are substantially harder than in other schools.

Extracurricular:

====================================

WOW, I am impressed by those SAT and AP scores. Your GPA is not indicative how good you are, because it is a competetive school. You're fine though because you basically have everything covered.

You might want to add more awards and honors to beef it up.

Lol, you're strong...don't listen to anyone else

More awards does not indicate higher quality.

hahahaha, im thinking about the same thing simon... jsut tht my stats are a lot less impressive than urs.. but i will probably end up applying to wharton.. despite being a suicide effort

You'll be a very strong applicant as long as you can articulate when Wharton is the BEST place for you and why you are will do well here. Penn is interested in finding people who will give back to the school, both while they are here and in the future (read: $). You are obviously a very smart person, but there are many other smart people -- why do you stand out? If you can answer that, you'll be a shoe-in.

NI
Wharton '06

wow thanks alot for the compliments guys...

ive been thinking about my essays lately and what worries me is that I basically have only 1 essay to make an impression on the admissions staff if i go generic on the "Why Penn" essay.

So i was thinking about approaching the "Why Penn" essay from a creative angle... but that may be a bit risky because I'll be eating up my precious word count with stuff that doesnt make me seem more qualified.

Actually, i was wondering if anyone at wharton had the extra time to just glance over my essays? Thanks alot guys

Seeing you kids with your stats makes me wonder how I ever got into this school...and how anyone can ever say the people going here aren't top notch

you have good scores, and lots of work experience (that warehouse experience is going to be really unique)... hey i have a question, what is the ratio boy to girlie girls at wharton?
