I find most of the books that people dislike to be good!

HOW COULD YOU NOT LIKE HUCKLEBERRY FINN?
Ethan Frome was decent..

Yeah, Romeo and Juliet was pretty boring and pathetic..but it's a classic, so whatever.

I didn't mind the Wuthering Heights.. it was pretty good but it wasn't like the best ever.

The book i didn't like was Moby Dick and The Old man and the Sea.

First of all, Moby Dick is just uselessly long that most people won't even get through reading half of it without falling asleep (only book i ever spark noted the whole thing on) and The Old man and the Sea... argh.

I read that book when i was in the first grade actually (i read a lot of classics when i was small) But like alot of books, it seemed boring. so i was done and i'm thinking ***? But then i grew up and reread some of those books and they were good. So i decided to give the Old Man and the Sea a new try.

Nope, still sucked. I guess i just don't find people fishing down whales particulary interesting? (since they were both whale dolphine related books, haha)

PS i think alot of people hate Scarlet letter because of its grammar and language. I read it when i was in first grade (once again) so i knew the story... (i read it in a different language so it wasn't that difficult) but english version wasn't... so pleasing. Like many books, once you get the basic story line, they are pretty good.

Okay, some of the books that were mentioned as bad were actually okay. Their Eyes were watching God was okay, Catching in the Rye is a classic(how dare you!).

A reeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllyyyyyyyyyy bad book that I just couldn't finish was OBASAN by Joy Kogawa. OM-FREAKING-G, that is the most boring book I've ever read!!!!!! I stopped at the letters that took up about a quarter of the entire book. It was just HORRIBLE.

The Poisionwood Bible. Twelfth Night.

i loved poisonwood bible!

all the pretty horses, anything dickens, and huck finn

"Why Nerds Suck" Pretty bad book.

The Heart is a Lonely Hunter

stewart little lol

1984 is terrible.

Worst:
Dragonsong (ugh! we are not in third grade playing pokemon anymore (i never liked that pokemon stuff anyways so you can imagine how much i liked this!)

Best:
The Great Gatsby
"Roaring noon." - best line for starting a paragraph
And I love when Jordan says "But everyone in this room is white." Haha.

To Kill A Mockingbird (duh!)

lol...I can not fathom why someone decided to put Guns, Germs and Steel on this list. That, in no way, shape or form resembles any sort of a novel. It is more of a scholarly book that, in a general summation, delves into how certain continents and countries gained an advantage over others.

The Awakening and Wuthering Heights would have to be the two I most disliked...and a German title, Die Habenichtse, plainly sucked.

1984 is terrible? I think it depends on the reader. Some people actually consider 1984 a classic and worship Orwell. Personally, I think 1984 was okay......not the best book I've read, but okay. However, I liked his essay, "Politics and the English Language" and I think every literate human should read this essay. The essay dissects the flaws in today's writers and a lot of mistakes they make when writing. I'm especially fond of the part where he scorns at writers who gratuitously implement foreign words and phrases just to butter up their work. I can assure you that you will write differently than you currently do after reading this piece.

Btw, what words would you consider pretentious if used?

Just finished "The Scarlet Letter"
Good story, unnecessarily convoluted writing.

Worst book is the Scarlet Letter, when I was reading at night after two pages , I would be knocked out.

Wuthering Heights was okay at certain times but other that , it was a drag.

eragon. or its sequel, eldest. basically the inheritance trilogy (the third hasnt come out yet, but i know it will suck) no one inherits anything so i dont know why they're called that.

pointless. stupid. heavily plagiarized. the author is so full of himself; after he wrote the books he declared that he felt like tolkien. someone needs to set him straight.

I loved The Giver and 1984! That said, I'm def not a sci-fi freak. Those two in particular I happened to like. I didn't like Brave New World..eeek. I'm reading House on Mango Street now and i know it's all metaphorical but when reading it I sort of want someone to put me out of my misery.

Brave New World is a really good book!

Well, I feel "The House on Mango Street" is more for a younger audience. I read it in the 9th grade and at the time, I thought it was good but if I was to read it now, I'd probably kill myself just like GreedDayFan said.

THE HUMAN CONDITION by Hannah Arendt (sp?)

I would say All Quiet on the Western Front.

seriously...totally unintelligible. the grammar is quaint, and horrible.
