what are the WORST "literary and famous" books?

the literature ones..the famous ones...the BAD ones..
anyone know any?

Stay away from The Scarlett Letter and Madame Bovary (though this one may not be that bad). You've been warned.

Reading The Awakening by Kate Chopin was so incredibly painful that I cheered when Edna finally drowned herself. As for When Heaven and Earth Changed Places, I so hoped that Le Ly would finally just die and stop being so smug and irritating. Of course she lived to plague me with her accounts of sleeping with sixty-year old foreign men after knowing them for 4 hours. Tsk, tsk.

omg....i loved the awakening.....!!!!!

emma..bronte..eww..

Ulysses is pretty bad if you're not an human encyclopedia. (or unwilling to read the volumes of footnotes.)

or how bout native son, ugh I just wish that the book could have wrapped up early, I think my school picked that book because they needed one piece of "minority" writing. That being said, I immensely enjoyed "invisible man" by ralph ellison

Alice in Wonderland..or maybe I'm just too stupid to appreciate good writing :(

Alice in Wonderland? Aaaahh no I love that book.

My nomination would go to Jude the Obscure and Emma

"War and Peace" by Leo Tolstoy

"Rebecca." Hands down.

The Awakening is beautifully written; it just has a lousy message. Anything by Virginia Woolf is way better.

I agree with Native Son....a painful reading experience

What's "Native son", bigjake?

Where do you see this words?

moby dick...boring..well kinda interesting..ehh boring..

a boring play...OUR TOWN!!

I liked the Scarlet Letter, but didn't like The House of the Seven Gables except for the very beginning and very end. I haven't read Madame Bovary, but another class in my school is reading it and all I hear is complaints. By the way, I can't stand Charles Dickens.

Beloved by Tony Morrison. Fail to see why this book is regarded as a classic..think it's only on reading lists because it's politically correct. While I dislike Morrison as a writer, Beloved is about as bad as her books get..she has written better.

I meant "Native Son" the book...semipitern said it was bad...and i agreed

Age of Innocence...Bleh

I'd have to go with Scarlet Letter or The Pearl.

moby dick was good sexydesi! (except for that chapter on all the different kinds of whales, i'll give you that...)

my least favorite is wuthering heights

I loved Beloved!

Heart of Darkness was awful!! Reading it was like trudging through a thick, unyielding forest
