Worst book I've ever read is...

“Flowers in the Attic” - V. C. Andrews

I read it out of curiosity and realized later that I shouldn’t have.

“Heart of Darkness” was also pretty frustrating to me- although I’d hardly call it the worst book I’ve ever read- because there was absolutely nothing enjoyable about it. It was mildly interesting, but I’ve never read a hundred page book that felt so horribly long. There were four or five very interesting, poignant, even creepy scenes, and a whole lot of riding on a boat.

bookannelida, A Separate Peace examines both the feelings and consequences of jealousy. There’s your philosophical point and it’s achieved in a relatively short, stimulating read.

^exactly. it manages to explore a lot of ideas without being contrived. it’s simply written but that gets the point across better; i think you have to be in the right place to really absorb it, but it’s an amazing read.

^^^Crap. I have to read Heart Of Darkness by Thursday. T___T

Paradise Lost by John Milton 800 pages of this cocky ahole telling us how awesome he is.

heart of darkness was bad, but PL wins just by virtue (?) of being in poetic form and being eight times as long

ummm… wow. John Milton is like the Jesus of the English Language. You need to reread Paradise Lost once you’ve gained some maturity.

@manarius – never heard of The Alchemist but thoroughly relished your review. :)

^^^About Heart of Darkness: I just started reading it, and I have to be honest, I think it’s pretty damn fantastic. Contrary to what everyone else has said, I actually really, really like it so far.
