I second Snow Flower and the Secret Fan!! Also hated The Fountainhead. However, I did love Heart of Darkness.

HAAAATED HEART OF DARKNESS WITH A PASSION. A dark, deep passion. The only good that came out of that book was that I learned how to sleep with my eyes open in class.

The Odyssey was pretty bad too… I guess the story wasn’t that awful but honestly, how are we supposed to read and understand the gibberish written on those pages… that was when I discovered my love for Sparknotes

I wasn’t a huge fan of Shakespeare either, but that’s probably because of the way my teachers taught it. I really enjoyed Hamlet, but I didn’t like the intense and obsessive dissection of each word and line. His stories are great though.

and aw, I loved Lord of the Flies! It was probably the only book that’s captivated me enough to make me read it in one day. But poor Piggy :(

@topaz1116 You realize that the reason you think that R&J was cheesy was because it pretty much set precedent for every romance after it, right?

@mrnephew Probably. Doesn’t mean I have to like it, though. Mainly because it was really, really unrealistic (how long did it take for them to fall in love? three days, I think?).

Meh, if fiction was realistic…

Lord of the Flies was also pretty dreadful, even when I understood all the symbolism. Although my judgement might also be clouded by the fact that no girls were present…

I hated the return of the native. Lame plot and it seemed to drag on.

Tale of Two Cities, Beloved, Scarlet Letter

Like- TKMB, The Outsiders, Inferno

Hate- Lord of the Flies, Odyssey, Bible,

If I Stay. Terrible. Its sentimentality made me want to vomit.

I did not like The Scarlet Letter.
The best books I have had to read for school though were Huck Finn, I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, and Hush.
Hush is an excellent book, and it’s very haunting.

As I lay Dying by William Faulkner
Terribly difficult to understand and dismally boring
Rating-.1/10

@Sadede53896 I loved As I Lay Dying!!

I reaaaaallly disliked (hate is a strong word :P) Romeo & Juliet and Othello

I hated Anthem by Ayn Rand. And then I had to pretend to like it for the following project (it was one of those projects where you don’t actually get to give your opinion.)

Joy Luck Club was unbearable.

@mrnephew our teacher tried to teach us Joy Luck Club. It didn’t work because most of the kids in our school live Joy Luck Club.

The Scarlet Letter just seem to drag on and on and on for me.

I second As I Lay Dying. Didn’t like Great Expectations, Atlas Shrugged, and Daughter of Fortune either. Best books would probably be Brave New World and This Boy’s Life.

Ooh Brave New World was good.

Worst books:
Emma by Jane Austen
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan

Best books:
1984-George Orwell
Frankenstein-Mary Shelley
The Glass Castle-Jeannette Walls
To Kill a Mockingbird-Harper Lee
