worth applying to with my scores?

hi, i am a junior with around 4.1W weighted GPA, 3.5 UW, 1440 SAT on the new one, my SAT translates to a 31 ACT, and i have a long list of volunteering (around 200 hours), internships including one at johns hopkins hospital, and a long list of helping community members. what are my chances? I am also Vice President of my grade, served multiple years in student government, future business leaders of America reginoal and county champion, state champion, national contender. 4 years of lacrosse in high school, in national honors society, 6 AP classes in high school. Also an officer of 3 clubs, and a minority, and trilingual. I live in MD and my mom went to UCLA if that helps, although I heard UC schools don’t care about legacy.

I definitely would try, you have to remember that essays also have a huge influence on the application. I just got accepted this year for the 2021 class for pre-Econ with a 1440 like you and was a lot more one-dimensional I would say (mostly had varsity soccer and state championships) so if you put a lot of effort into your essays and come out as honest I think you have a good chance

awesome, is it harder coming from out of state? are my GPA and ec’s enough?

As an OOS applicant you need to know that there is no financial aid available at any UC. Can your parents afford to pay $60,000/year for 4 years?

ouch thats rough. although it is a great school ill definetly still apply there. are there any discounts since my mom went there?

No, there are no “discounts”.

oh usually schools give legacy discounts

I have never heard of any school giving a legacy discount.

The UCs are California public universities and get funding from California taxpayers. If you live out of state and you do not pay the high California taxes, you will pay OOS fees of $60k per year.

The UCs are out of money. They don’t give “discounts”, coupons, reductions to anyone. They don’t give financial aid to OOS students because they can’t afford it. If you want to go to UCLA, you pay full fees, regardless of your mother’s alumni status.

oh alright thank you

Yes. Go 4 it as long as you provide a genuine application with personal statements that tie everything together so it paints a true picture of who you are and what you’ve been passionate about for the last 4 years. And it shows you will be someone that will make a difference on campus. just got in here - with very similar stats.

are you instate or out of state?
