Worth having a motorcycle / bicycle for dorms?

Do you guys think they will be needed for UCLA/ UCSC / UCSD / UCB ?

Maybe if you want a quick way to get to classes, but those UCs aren’t particularly bike-friendly.

they aren’t bike friendly?

UCB and UCLA are pretty like city oriented campuses (not especially bike friendly I suppose…) UC Davis on the other hand … lol

UCSB is super bike friendly. The bike racks next to the dorms are filled!

Don’t know about UCLA though. Seems like everyone just walks. Those are the only 2 campuses ive visited.

They mean it’d be fairly difficult to ride in those areas because of either terrain or orientation of the campus.

Motorcycle on the other hand; I’d definitely suggest something light and easily parked… Alot of it would depend on your ability to ride at certain UCs, but will you not be taking a car? Are you living on campus?

UCSB literally has a biking street system. It literally looks like a bikers have their own street with painted lanes, round-a-bouts, and biking freeway.

@ iMunster and lawlking: OP didn’t mention anything about UCSB, so I don’t think he would care about whether UCSB is bike-friendly or not.

Yeah. Just thought I’d throw that in there since its the only 2 campuses I’ve been on. Hehe.

just buy a cheap mountain bike when you get to school. You will use it.

These posts are missing the main issue. If you are a rider you know your bike can get stolen anywhere…please do not underestimate the actual risk. Riding is extremely dangerous in LA. If you have just been accepted to LA you do not have the experience to ride here. Please listen, I am a born and raised Harley Davidson rider…the very real kind, the kind that friend’s fight against helmet laws because they are insane. Listen it is not safe to drive an M1 in LA and especially in Westwood. Every year at least one student is seriously injured…I mean lost limb, half of their face taken off…it is not due to your abilities, though at our age…and I know you think you are special, we all do…you are not equipped to handle what you will be experiencing in Westwood alone…most of these people shouldn’t even be driving cars…you will not have the speed, maneuvering capability or accuracy (due to your bike alone…not even skill) that is need to avoid the drivers that will left turn in front of you unaware you are there, the ones that will side swipe you and toss you from your bike…please don’t be stupid, I love motorcycles but right place right time, it isn’t worth your life. I speak from real experience…most of you won’t listen, but if just one does.

They’re also 2 years old…lol

Good try trying to save their lives, but you were to late. They have already gotten in accidents. jk

If you look at the guy’s post history, he is literally copying and pasting the same reply on multiple threads that are years old -_-

Cal is somewhat bike friendly. Didn’t see too many when I visited. Everyone usually walks though.

UCLA, I didn’t see any bikes. I think majority walks also or just drive. I mean it’s LA! lol you have to get to places by driving.

UCSD. A lot of them take the bus. That’s all I saw. They discourage driving so much.

Davis and SB are super bike friendly!
