If I decide to live on campus I'm thinking I might bring my bike to school. Is UCLA bike friendly? Will I have a place (in my dorm, on campus, etc) to store my bike? How are the bike routes on campus and will I have troubles with the commute (I'm not exactly a novice bicyclist)?
I'm only considering this because I've been assigned to Rieber Vista and most of my classes will be held in East Melnitz, which are about one and a half miles apart. Not too bad but still a bit of a walk.
Thanks!

just get a car, its safer :)

Blech no. It would be such a waste of space and money and time to get a car just to drive from one point of campus to another. Plus, everyone would try to mooch off me for rides.

Im thinking of bringing my road bike as well. Theres plenty of space in the dorms…it can even fit under your bed if you take the front wheel off. My friend on the tri team even had two bikes in there haha. However, a lot of ucla has a no biking rule, like bruinwalk and other crowded places. But you can always bike on any of the campus roads to get to class

true, then just live by ur class rooms!

Lol uh…thanks for the advice anyway dude

@guitarfrk That’s good to know. I was afraid the dorms would be a bit too small but I could definitely find somewhere. Oh and on the website there is a link to another site that gives you the best bike route to your classes. You just have to enter your dorm address and your destination’s address and they give you a full overview of the terrain, the difficulty of the route, and the amount of time it should take.

I was thinking about bringing my longboard, but I wasn’t sure if I would actually be allowed to use it and the uphill/downhill dangers.

no problem, anytime and good luck biking!!!

Boarding rules sound a bit strict.

• Skate boarders, roller skaters, and in-line skaters shall be considered pedestrians, and should not ride on roadways and bikeways.

• Skateboarding or skating is prohibited on covered walks, bikeways, roads, curbs, parking lots & structures, underpasses, interior courtyards, inside buildings, stairs, railings, exterior balconies, and handicap ramps.

Wait, what? Where the hell am I supposed to skate? In the sky?

hey framlove, where is that website?

haha I have a roadbike too. I know there are a lot of hills from the dorms to lecture halls… Were you thinking of riding your bike around town or to class? lol

@MrOblivious Lol maybe when you go to orientation you can ask someone there for some more info.

[Bike Routing and Mapping](http://www.bikemetro.com/route/routehome.asp)
Go to the interactive campus map on the UCLA site and type in your intended destinations then click on them when they show up and you’ll get the addresses you need.

Maybe both…? I know I want to ride to class so that I don’t have to wake up 20 minutes earlier just to take the walk to my class. I also have a friend that goes to Humboldt and rides her bike to class and has to endure a lot of hills. But she says she’s gotten used to it and now has massive calves lol
And I guess it just depends on where I need to go around town. I think I might be a little afraid to ride a bike in LA but I guess it all depends…?

I want to bring my longboard too. I hear a lot of kids ride anyway?

@edelynly you longboard? You must teach me!!

I’m thinking maybe a razor scooter? Wait… I may be a little tall. Do they have those for adults?

I was thinking bike too framlove. Heck yes 1.5 mi to East Melnitz is far haha. Though I did the same trek across in snowstorms/blizzards in Wisco, I’m sure not going to do it here if I can help it. The snow was the only thing stopping me from gettin a good bike…although I need to learn how to ride one first…but that’s besides the point lol

@sunnyseas - yesss. We can board togetha! Hahaha
