bikes in dorm?

i ride BMX and i really wanna take my bike with me but im not going to risk locking it up outside. if i were to loft my bed do you think it would be feasible? its a small bmx bike, 20 inch wheels.

well first, you're not sure if you're going to be getting a double room. Second, there has been a vicious rumor going around (apparently true) that they aren't going to let you bunk or loft beds in double rooms anymore.

^ this being due to drunk idiots falling out of their bunked beds and suing the school. Not sure how true this is, but this is the word on the street. If its true, these people (like the rest of the overly litigious morons in this country) need to have some sense beaten into them

There is no way it's going to fit in a room and not tick off your roommate.

That's my feeling, at least.

on the topic of bikes...

do students find it useful to have a bike to get around campus?

In my experience? Not in the least bit.

unless you really like hills... no :p
Especially living in the dorms, a bike will be of no use whatsoever. I can see living past Wilshire and riding a street bike to campus, but riding from the dorms to campus is rather pointless.
And UCLAri brings up a good point - it would be a royal pain to bring a bike into your room, and your roommates almost assuredly won't be too excited about it. That being said, I've seen it done...

well, i didnt wanan bring my bike for transportation, i wanted to bring it for leisure. i guess ill see how my roomate is and how the accomodations are and then the next time i come home ill try to bring my bike.

One of the guys in my floor does something weird where he has a bike rack thing on his wall, and his bike is sorta hanging off the ceiling over his desk. He lives in a double though. There was another guy on my floor in a triple who had a bike. He had it propped up next to his desk at night and on his bed during the day (which sounds kinda gross to me)

Neither of them ride their bikes to class, one's on the cycling team and the other one recently competed in the triathalon

I don't understand why people bike on campus. I mean, good luck pedaling through the crowds on Bruin Walk during rush hour, and finding a place to put it in a triple... although the skateboard/bike path they installed on the side of Bruin Walk does help a bit.

They have bike racks for walls. Jerry had one in Seinfeld. I think it would add character to your room. I'd be afraid of it falling down in my sleep, though.
