Worth it to Apply to alternate program?

Now i am somewhat of a reach candidate (91.24 unweighted, rigorous courseload upward trend, 2200 SAT, 1470/1600) and i am applying ED to CALS Dyson School of AEM. I'm aware that is the most competitive major at Cornell. I see on the common app there is an option for an alternate program if you get rejected, but i've heard that it's pretty useless to apply because most of the time its a waste of time and they do not send your application to the other college. So can i get some opinons/advice on this? there truly is no other college at Cornell that interests me because i am heavily interested in a business major and i feel AEM gives me everything i want. (NY state resident, just fyi)

If you get into another college ED, do you have to go? If you do, and you’re not sure you want to go to another college, then I’d say don’t do it.

If not, or if you’d be happy in another college (Econ in A&S, i.e.), then go for it. They do pass the app on. I know people who’ve gotten into their alternate college.
