Say I want to go to law school or graduate school. Is there any point in retaking a class I've got a C in it? Because that C was from freshman year, my school allows the new grade to replace it, so it would look nice for my GPA, but the C would still be counted for law/grad school admission right?

Grad schools would rather see you take an advanced course within your field of study and excel in it.

Not worth it, it’s only one course

Is the course an intro class for your major? If you have extra time in your schedule during your soph/junior year, go for it. If you’re planning on going to grad or law school right out of undergrad, taking it during senior year most likely won’t replace it in time for your applications. If you don’t have time to take it, don’t worry about it. Try to take something in a higher level in your major and do really well in it.

I have the same question, except I don’t plan on going to grad school. Will employers care that I got a C in my first engineering class? I have a chance to retake it, should I do it or not?
