Worth it???

I want to major in mechanical or electrical engineering. And, I am deciding between UVa and UMich. Going to UVa costs approximately $11,000/year and U of M is $30,000/year. My family is not rich but not poor. My dad makes about $110,000/year (and my parents will pay the whole cost of attendance, but I don't want completely deplete our financial resources). So, do you think, for me and my parents, it is worth going to Michigan?

not worth it, goto uva.

Michigan engineering is definitely better than UVA’s. It’s worth it if you can really afford it. However, are you 100% sure you want to be an engineer and work in the industry?

Personally, I’d go to UVa and then apply to a top engineering school for master’s.

^At least now I am 100% sure I want to be an engineer. Do you think graduating from UM is more beneficial than graduating from UVa when I apply to a top engineering school(for my master’s degree)?

if you actually want to work in engineering, it doesn’t really matter where you go, because having skills is more important than the name of the school on your diploma, if you want to work in something else, then u shouldn’t major in engineering.

^but don’t I get to obtain better skills when I go to the better engineering school?

How are you able to go to U of M for $30,000? Last I checked it was $47,000/year. Did you get some scholarship $$?? If so good for you!!!

This might be true for the average students. For the top students, it opens more doors for your first job as you have access to better on campus recruiting; better alumni network (both grad and undergrad) and better industrial connections.
