Worth retaking a class you failed in the fall before transfer?

Since the fall before you transfer is the most recent set of grades they see before deciding who to accept or reject, is it worth retaking a class in spring that you failed the previous fall?

On one hand, they might think, "Oh good, he's retaking it." On the other hand, if you failed it the first time, they're probably not expecting you to do very well in it the second time.

Additionally, if you retake a class, your opportunity cost is that you're not taking another new class, and thus not learning as much new information.

So, if I failed a class this semester, and UC acceptions.rejections will be made before the upcoming spring semester ends, should retake it? Or should I just move on and take another class?

Note that this isn't a pre-requisite course, so I don't need to pass this particular course any more so than any other.

IMO retaking the class > taking a new class. Retaking the class for a higher grade will replace the F and dramatically increase your GPA (at least at my CC). I'm not sure if the "F" will stay on your transcript after your GPA has been recalculated, but by taking a new class that F will definitely remain.

^ Maybe I didn't make myself clear, but spring grades don't come until long after the UCs have already made their decisions.

Woops, I didnt read that you were in your last Fall semester.

I guess it just comes down to preference. To me personally I'd think theyd like it better to see that youre attempting to get a better grade in that class, but thats just me.

Although it might not help with the UC admissions GPA, retaking the course will still be calculated in your overall GPA. This would be helpful if you are interested in applying to graduate or professional level schools.
