Hi,
My school offers the opportunity to technically enroll in a local state university’s Calculus I & II course while taking BC Calc. In other words, I take the class at my school but also take the state university’s final for the calculus course, and thereby earn credits equivalent to taking the course while enrolled (which I can later transfer). I didn’t realize this was considered a college course, and given a grade/transcript, so when schools asked if I was dual-enrolled in any local schools I had said no (Common App section). I received an A on the final, which means I have an A in the university course, but I only have an A- in my school’s BC Calc class (with all the rest of my grades being A/A+'s).
Will it make a difference if I send my state university transcript to the schools I apply to in terms of admissions? My school only sent transcripts for the semester last week, but is it too late (especially considering the time it takes to arrive)? If not, can I just send transcripts to the admissions office or do I need to check with each individual school?
For reference, I am applying to several top 20 schools.
Thanks!
Yes, you need to send the transcript. You’ll have to request it from the college that gave you the credit.
You are obligated to send have the university send this transcript to each place on your application list. Drop the asmissions offices an email and let them know that you hadn’t understood correctly about it being a dual-enrollment course when you filed your common app.
You will also need to send this transcript in the future if/when you apply to grad school or for a job that requires all of your college-level transcripts. What each place you send it to does with the information is entirely up to them.
Didn’t realize it was necessary, oops. I’ll send it out tomorrow with an email. Is sending the transcript to admissions offices sufficient for each school?
Yes, you must send an official transcript to each college you are applying to. Or you can get an official transcript, give it to your counselor and let him/her send a certified copy, which they will send/upload with your official high school transcript
If your university asks for all, send them all.
I’m having a difficult time finding which particular schools asked if I was enrolled in a college course, and which ones didn’t. If my transcripts arrive detailing the class & grade pt average, does it make a difference whether or not I send an email clarifying my situation/checked “yes” for taking a college course on the common application?
Don’t worry about which places saw an application with a box checked or not. Send the transcript to all of the places you applied to. Drop an email to all of the admissions offices along the line of “I have asked CCXYZ to send you an official copy of my transcript for my dual enrollment classes to include in my application file.” That way they will know to be looking for it. You could send a follow up email in another week or to asking if they did receive it.
Lots of students are confused about what to send, and admissions offices are used to getting additional materials and can match all these things up correctly.
For all colleges that you send transcripts to when applying, send the college transcript and inform the college that you are sending it.
For all colleges that you self-report courses and grades on the application, inform the college of the correction which is the addition of the college courses and grades.
Thanks for the responses guys, this has definitely cleared things up. I’ll be sure to send an email along.
