Worth studying for new PSAT while studying for old SAT

I am taking the old SAT in October, and maybe again in Dec. or Jan. before the test changes. I’ve been studying for that test for the past few months. The revised PSAT is being offered about a week later in October. I wanted to focus all my efforts in doing as well as I could on the SAT, so I have not yet even looked at the new PSAT format yet.

In the past, you didn’t need to do anything different for the PSAT because the tests were the same. I don’t want to split my time studying for both, and will have a small window after the Oct. SAT to look at the revamped PSAT material. Is the nature of the questions very different from the old SAT type questions so that you would need to devote some time to gaining familiarity? I am wondering if it is even worth taking the PSAT at this point with little to no preparation. Thanks for any insight.

Take the practice PSAT test on the CB website. If you are a good test-taker and aiming for the NMS, it is well worth practicing. Its a longer test than previous versions. May be a bit easier, but be prepared for changes, and study up! If you hope to be done with testing with the current SAT, then ys, study for both, but be aware of the differences in the tests.

I’m going to be studying for the new PSAT even though I plan on taking the old SAT; I’ll probably only study for like ten or fifteen hours, but I don’t want to pass up an opportunity for free money.
