Worthy of Applying for Undergrad/Med School 8-Year Programs?

My mom has been trying to get me to apply for a couple of different joint undergrad/medical school programs (Baylor, WashU, etc.), but I don't think I have any serious chance to win them. I understand her logic, that I should just give them a try, that the worst that could happen would be my not winning the scholarship, but I feel like the application/competition process would be a waste of time.

The only things I can imagine that I could bring to the table as an applicant to these programs are excellent grades in science classes and SAT II scores, and a modest number of community service hours. No research, no science fairs, no hospital internships...

Should I really even bother? Or should I give them a shot and see what happens?

I just realized this thread might be better served in “College Admissions”…

Sorry about that; thanks anyway.

Bump #1

To the forum admins – I wouldn’t mind if you moved the thread to “Admissions” … Thanks.

If you don’t have any research experience, it will probably be VERY difficult, but you never know. Not to be negative, but I don’t think you have any chance with Baylor or WashU, they’re much too competitive. If you want to try for it, I would look more in the lines of University of Rochester/Muhlenberg, which will still probably be unattainable.

No, that’s fine. I actually agree with you, but I wanted to make sure I wasn’t being unreasonably pessimistic.

Thanks for the feedback.
