I wouldn’t. I think I’m a pacifist.

Speaking of fail

If the military were such a waste, then there would be NO WAY that we would be where we are right now. Our military gives us security and also helps nations around the world. Look at Haiti. Who is there helping them right now? The Marines and the Navy. Being in the military is completely honorable.

Now, going to HPYS andthen becoming a regular on Wall Street… how honorable is that? Who’s lives are you saving? Who are you protecting?

Not even close to the most offensive thing I’ve read on here…

It is when both your parents are military and a lot of your extended family/friends are also.

Joining the military is a lot more productive than what most people do. It allows you to fund a college education, gain mental/physical toughness and discipline, learn valuable skills, gain experience, and serve your country. But if you’re a math genius with full financial aid from Harvard already, then it that case I would consider the military a waste of talent.

+1

You know, it’s the strangest thing. Sometimes people don’t care about going to the Ivies. Also, there are a plethora of jobs within the military for math geniuses.

^ without going to college first he couldn’t really do those jobs, he’d just be another enlisted soldier dodging bullets and IEDs

Military also guarantees you with a job upon graduation.

One, ROTC (yes, that is college but you’re in the military first and foremost). Two, you can get your degree while in the military. Three, not only can you get your degree while in the military, you can get your degree doing hands-on jobs while in the military.

“Secondly, joining the military doesn’t automatically mean you “get shot at.” That’s probably the biggest misconception around. All the branches have a million different jobs, including desk jobs. Hell, you can be a priest or a cook in the military. Please people, don’t think you know everything about everything because you have a 2400 and 4.0. Do your research before posting.”

Just wanted to quote a few people. =)

“Being in the military is completely honorable.”
“HPYS andthen becoming a regular on Wall Street… how honorable is that?”

This annoys me. This *&#$ing annoys me.

Why does it annoy you? : (

Because I could just as easily say this:

“Joining the military and killing innocent people, where is the honor in that?”

“However, going to HPYS and then going to Africa help education etc., is completely honorable.”

So don’t kill innocent people.

I’m not saying that the military is evil - it is necessary and does a lot of good. But you shouldn’t make it seem like it is a nice little organization whose only purpose is to help countries hit by natural disasters :)

^ Who did?

Whoever posted that post that Splonk quoted. Previous page, rupee2.

*Our military gives us security and also helps nations around the world. *

a nice little organization whose only purpose is to help countries hit by natural disasters

Way to misread his quote.

^You are missing my point. My real objection was in post #52, for reasons in post #54.
