I am an international student and I applied to few colleges in America. The problem I just realized is that in the resume I included with my application packet I made a spelling error. I mispelled the name of a institution that I had worked for. I also included a recommendation from the director of that institution. So the adcom will probably notice the spelling error. Will this have a negative affect on my admission decision? I am really freaking out right now and would like to know if something similar happened to anyone else here but were still admitted.

Admissions counselors are human too. A typographical error or two will be overlooked and swiftly forgotten. I made one or two on my application as well and I got into my first choice reach. You have nothing to fear - and that's a fact; I'm not saying it merely to placate you =)

thanks...you really helped calm my nerves

I had a friend that on the supplement for Mt. Holyoke (it asks why you want to go there) wrote "Smith is a great school..." Smith is one of Mt. Holyoke's biggest competitors for top female students, but she still got into Mt. Holyoke. If they can forgive a mistake like that, I'm sure you're fine.

^wow are you serious?

Kittylow, are you serious?
I just made the same mistake as your friend did. and i posted my problem just over there~~

^ one typo doesn't really matter. Several can sometimes kill.

Yes, this is a true story. Said friend chose neither school though because she was offered a far better aid package elsewhere. I'm sure they realized she must have copied and pasted her answer from Smith's supplement (they ask the same question). In fact, I'm sure they had a few laughs over it and it made her more memorable as an applicant.
