Would Cornell consider a ACT 36 student a more stronger applicant than a 34 student?

I have got a 34 in the ACT. I know it is an excellent score. I also know that in admissions for Cornell, Caltech etc. scores aren’t everything.

But still I am curious to know whether Cornell, Caltech and other such top tier universities would consider a
36 ACT student stronger than a ACT 34 student?

Both are excellent scores. At that point I think they would look more towards the rest of your application. A strong applicant (great GPA, course rigor, ECs, recs) with a 34 probably has a better shot than someone with a 36 and a weak application. So no, I don’t think they would consider a 36 and stronger applicant. I think they will look beyond the scores at the rest of the application.

I agree with the above.

Thanks

What are your other accomplishments?
Strictly speaking no it makes no difference. Once you reach a certain score all that matters is essays, ec’s, etc.

Once you pass the 33 mark on the ACT or 1500 mark on the SAT, the scores become harder to compare. When a 1600 SAT student is being compared with a 1000 SAT student for example, the former has a noticeable advantage. But bring that same student up with some guy with a 1550 and it becomes much harder to compare both on solely their SAT standing.

The difference between a 34 and a 36 is negligible. What will be scrutinized is a student using “more stronger” in a sentence. I’m sure this is just a typo, but you will need to have a near perfect application to be considered.
