Would I even be considered?

Can you summarize it briefly? Are they taking calculus beyond the normal level? Lots of physics? Actual engineering classes like thermo, fluids, heat transfer?

@Jocassee

My husband is the VP of an engineering firm and does hiring. I can guarantee you…nothing…NOTHING a job applicant did in HS will matter at all when it comes to jobs.

Engineering programs have a high bar for direct admission. Some HSs do not have a bar as high.

In addition, students are completing for direct admission to engineering programs with students from OOS.

As noted by @bodangles that HS engineering program would, have to be very accelerated, AND the college applicant would need to be a top achiever for this to matter at all in terms of admissions to engineering programs.

Again, you are entitled to your opinion @Jocassee

Did you read the Terms of Service prior to joining the forum @Jocassee ?

As a flip side. One of my kids has a bachelors in engineering from a well regarded west coast school…with a great engineering program. She NEVER took calculus in HS. She had three AP courses and one was music theory.

BUT she was 8th in her class, top 5%. Her SAT scores were ok. But not tippy top.

It goes both ways. Engineering schools…like every other school…look for a breadth of courses…and they don’t really want single minded all academic engineer types filling their classes. They look for kids with strengths in both the sciences and humanities.

@Jocassee it’s true. You are en engineer. So is my husband. He has to have excellent writing and social communication skills. He needs to be able to see things from multiple perspectives…not just from his engineering perspective.

My husband is a design engineer and does work for everything from bridges to theaters, he needs to understand his clients…and their perspectives…and so do the engineers who work on his team.

It’s not good enough anymore to just be technically adept. You have to have the full package.

It appears classes in that program are still offered as college prep, honors, or AP…so I’m not sure what the argument is.

Both the ACT and SAT have a writing requirement that is sent to schools .

Clemson uses objective data for admission to their school. It has been documented numerous places . They do this to assess students from all over the country and the world based on their admissions criteria .While some schools have a “holistic” admission policy, Clemson is not one of them .

My son is interested in applying in the Fall for 2018 start. He has 1400 SAT (740m/660 verbal, superscored). He is about top 13% and will have 9 AP classes. Texas OOS. Is interested in Business. Any anecdotal evidence?

@aggiesomeday123 I’d love to give you some anecdotal evidence , but this year’s acceptances were crazy competitive and all over the place. The closer he can get to top 10% the better . How’s his GPA? His test scores look good. One piece of advice I can give you is to apply on Aug 1 when the app opens because housing is based on application date. The application is very easy to complete. Good luck to your son.

@carolinamom2boys Thank you for responding! He will likely not make Top 10% even though he only has 5 Bs total and all Honors /AP Classes - very competitive school. But he should be right under top 10% and no worse than top 15%.
