Hello there!
I just finished my second year at UCSC and got accepted for transfer at UCSB. I’m an English major.
I only needed one more GE, statistical reasoning. I took it Pass/No Pass (which may be another issue in itself) and didn’t pass the class. I’m so heartbroken; I was so excited to be closer to home.
I just checked my grades a couple days ago. I got A’s for my 3 other classes and that NP. I have never gotten below a B before and I’m in great academic standing with a GPA of 3.8 despite that NP.
I know general education is essential to transfer. I also have heard lately that you aren’t supposed to take math and English classes P/NP and don’t know if that’s true. I’m just at a loss.
I am also worried because on my update I said I would be taking a 2 unit music class but ended up taking a poetry class and never submitted that academic change.
Should I 100% expect to be rescinded? I emailed my professor just to ask about what I received on the final and to tell him about my situation but he hasn’t responded and it has been 2 days. I don’t expect him to at this point. Should I just call the admissions asap?
However, if this is the required math, there is a very high likelihood you will get rescinded because the two English and math are the minimum required courses needed across all UC platforms to transfer. You can take it P/NP, but you got a NP.
Contact UCSB ASAP. You are UC-UC so they may have a different policy. Good luck!
How do GEs work across the campuses? I notice that at UCSC for example, we have a math requirement and a statistics requirement separate but at say UCSB, they have math, science, and tech lumped together.
I completed my math requirement but not my statistics one. So does this mean that I’m worrying about nothing since UCSB doesn’t have a statistics requirement or…?
These are the equivalent courses that fulfill the quantitative math:
Elementary Finite Mathematics
Elementary Probability and Statistics
Precalc and all Calc
Discrete math
Linear
Differential
Psych - basic stats
Each UC and dept has its own gen ed req but the English and math are the unifying courses needed across all platforms as a transfer. They may calculate UC-UC differently. But don’t they already have your transcripts?
thanks for commenting back! Any math course taken at a UC that counts as math at that UC would be transferable to another one. I took an Astronomy class to fulfill mine.
I thought that I needed to fulfill every GE at my UC in order to transfer but in the end I just needed the 7 GE courses (including 1 math course and 2 English courses.) That was my bad. but an NP still looks bad. Thankfully, I already got my situation reviewed by the UCSB Admission Review Committee and they did not rescind my acceptance; they kept me. Thank you
