I’m currently a freshman at UCSC and am pretty sure that I’d like to transfer into another UC by my junior year. I was checking the prerequisites for UCLA and they require one transferable math course with a prerequisite of pre-algebra or higher. I am confused as to whether this means that a course that falls under UCSC’s Mathematical and Formal Reasoning GE would be sufficient or if I would have to take a Pre-Calculus or Calculus class again before starting my transfer application. I would also be transferring as an English Literature major if that provides any useful information.
What math are u in rn? I’m pretty sure you need at least stats/math 300 for your math requirement. Minimum.
I’m not currently in any math courses as I’m working on completing all my GE requirements. I took AB Calculus in high school and took the AP test.
For transfer students, AP exams can also be used to meet the minimum transfer admission subject requirements in English (UC-E), Math (UC-M) and 4 other courses chosen from the humanities (UC- H), behavioral/social sciences (UC-B) and biological/physical sciences (UC-S).

It sounds like you qualify, but you should double-check by contacting UCLA admissions since the cost of being wrong about this is being denied admission
One other thing inter-UC transfers should look into is reciprocity for general-ed. The GE requirements differ slightly between UCs so it’s likely you’d need to take one or more classes once you transfer to finish GEs. UC realizes this and offers what is called reciprocity. If you finish the GE requirements at your current UC prior to transfer you can get a letter from the Registrar to that effect and the new UC will accept that as fulfilling your GEs. See for example registrar.ucsc.edu/navigator/section1/transfer/reciprocity%20.html
Thank you for the info! I’ve already done research about the letter of reciprocity and am aware of its benefits towards my application. I will also make sure to contact UCLA - I don’t want to lessen my chances of admission because of a small mistake I made.
