i'm a freshman at emory university and i hate it. Theres no school spirit, its not that challenging academically, the people arent my type (especially girls), and the environment doesn't fit me. Would I like Duke? I'm smart but love to party.

Well I'd definitely say there's TONS of school spirit and people do love to party. The general atmosphere seems to be something you're looking for because everyone's so intelligent and so amazing academically, but people do love to party here, so that might be exactly what you're looking for.

Regarding people, It seems like there's pretty much someone for everyone here, so I'm sure you could find you're group, but generally I don't really know what Emory is like people-wise, so I can't really comment.

I know a lot of people who applied to both Emory and Duke, so obviously there's much in common between the two...it may just be a matter of finding where you fit, and maybe Duke could be that place. You should look into it:)

no school spirit isnt good... i wonder if other people have this problem too?

tell me more...why is your experience bad?

well, the people are all stuck up rich kids from NJ or NY. Theres absoultley no school spirit. Nobody goes to any sporting events. Theres no football team (didnt think this would affect me so much when i applied but it does). The girls are all snotty and stuck up. The party life is okay and greek life is okay. The location isnt bad either, but the school just seems like a place you live and take classes. It doesnt seem like a real college.

well if you absolutely need a competitive football team... Duke might not be your first choice. The games are attended by a fair number of Durhamites, but not very well-attended by students. Hopefully basketball will make that up for you somehow ... And I also have hope for Duke football, I think they'll get better, but if you're like hardcore into rooting for a football team, you won't get too much of that here.

But as to your other concern, Duke definitely does feel like a "real college". There are kids playing wiffleball on the quad outside my window as I type this, actually. Being a "real college" is kind of hard for me to describe... but don't worry, Duke is one...

I am also applying to duke. My sister and cousin go there and I have visited them several times. There is definitely a crazy party scene there, (the frat I stayed at had a 3 story beer bong!) And their tailgates are legendary- people just tailgate and then dont go to the football games but thats the tradition. And they're all smart. Neat place.
