I'm a junior and I'm currently scheduling next year's classes. I'm almost positive that I won't be pursuing a major that is in any way related to math or science once I get into college, and I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to not bother with science altogether next year. Part of this is because science classes take up two periods at my school but the fact that I also have a somewhat rigorous schedule as it is is definitely a determining factor as well :

AP English Literature
AP European History
AP Spanish Language
Trigonometry
Middle Eastern Studies

If I did take a science, I'd most likely be taking AP Environmental Science seeing as it's considered to be relatively easy at my school and I don't see myself having too much trouble with it. The problem is that it takes up a huge amount of time (two periods which I could use to study classes of actual use to me or just to have a free period or two my senior year). I've heard that some colleges may decline applicants if they don't fulfill certain class requirements (one of them being 4 years of science).

Sorry for typing up so much. If it helps at all, the two schools which I'm most interested in are Vassar and Skidmore.

Yes, its good to take 4 years of the core subjects. All four years of math, science, and English is a must at many schools. Especially since your considering those two schools, I think you should take a science.

given that you are in reg trig as a senior (I have no idea what level that is? did you finish alg II? and that is like pre-calc), it will be obvious to colleges that you are not a math/science person…that being said, colleges want three years of lab science in MOST cases…if you have finished that, you should be good to go…

Two free periods to study and not taking that opportunity for an interesting class is harder to justify than no science. Vassar and Skidmore will have plenty of applicants with 4 or more sciences and AP Calculus BC plus all th AP’s you are taking. Those applicants will be taking a full load their senior year. You need to figure out if you have something else to make you stand out and it is still risky.

^Yeah, true. What are you planning on replacing the science with if you aren’t taking it? Like, again, I did the same thing, and I replaced the class+lab with two one semester English classes (at the highest level I could), a Voice class, and then a study hall. So, I still took 7 classes last semester, and I still have 6 this semester.
