Would it be better to be undecided or choose a major?

Honestly I am not confident in what major I want. My parents really want me to be in the health field like nursing since my mom is one herself. However, I don’t see myself really strong in science but decent within high school.

I’m also not the greatest social butterfly and that great with communicating with people, but I can still help them out. Right now I’m considering to do accounting and see how it goes, but not sure how well I will do with it.

Should I just go undecided or just pick between nursing and accounting?

Um not knowing what year you are currently, I’m going to guess that you’re in high school still.

If that’s the case, then rest assured, you have plenty of time.

Maybe you can find a college with both nursing and accounting, and that also provides several other interesting areas to explore. There are so many additional things in the world that might interest you. You can, for example, major in English or history or many other things, and then take business/accounting courses too. Ditto with nursing prereqs being taken while exploring other liberal arts areas. There are numerous combinations.

Not knowing anything about your GPA / test scores, if you identify as female, I’m thinking that a school like Simmons might work for you. It has nursing and it has business courses. Also, heads up, there’s a big scholarship – full tuition – if you get your app in early. Check their website for information. Nursing at Simmons starts in their second or third year, meaning that you’d have two years to figure out what you’d like to do, try things out (clearly you’d need to take science courses to fulfill the prereqs for nursing in that time too.) Simmons is part of a consortium with several other nice schools–including an engineering school and an art school. You could really try things out.

Juniata is a coed school that offers pre-nursing and accounting. It’s also a very nice liberal arts school–which really helps with your critical thinking skills.

Knox, in Illinois, is also a great LAC with ties to nursing and business. Again, the liberal arts curriculum that you’d get in your intro two years will both help you decide what’s right for you and you have the flexibility to look into nursing and accounting, both. Or some other field altogether.

I’m sure that there are many other colleges out there like this.

Best of luck

It depends on the school – at many places people apply directly to the nursing program or the business school so you would have to make a choice upfront as to where you want to start.
