Would it be impossible/too late to send a revised/changed essay?

I know this may seem like a ridiculous question, because a deadline is a deadline, and once you send something in, it's done.

But i've read and heard that some people have had revised essays sent in, or additional essays, or replacement essays, to their colleges, a few days after the deadline, and were able to because the process of going over their application had not started yet.

Would this be a viable option? Should I call the college admissions and ask them, or would it be absolutely ridiculous?

I honestly feel like the way I edited/changed my commonapp essay, could entirely change my admissions chances. So I felt it couldn't hurt to ask this question here.

call them or shoot them an email to ask. if you call, you can ask anonymously (they never really ask your name if you say you have a quick question), so you can ask if that would be possible, and if they say “no,” then at least you tried.

NYU gave me an admissions email address to send it to, saying it’ll be reviewed as a secondary essay. I’m just wondering if they’ll actually really consider it, and they didn’t just tell me to do that.
