Additional Essay - Will they truly read and consider?

I've been driving myself insane due to how unsatisfied I actually am with my commonapp essay, I think it's weak. So I called NYU Admissions, and asked them if I could possibly send in a revised/changed essay for them to consider even though the deadline has passed. They gave me an admissions email address and told me to send it there for them to look at as a "secondary essay" or something like that.

My question is do you think they will really review it and if it could possibly have an influence on my application?
The essay is a thousand times better than the original one that was sent in, and it makes a genuine point to show my diversity and a strong cultural experience I lived.

i honestly don’t think they’ll read it. I once called the office of undergraduate addmissions to ask if they received my additional essay and the women said they’ll most likely not read it because they have too many applications. I then told her it was an optional paper for gallatin and she saic they’ll read read it and process it since it’s a special requirement from the school. But yeah she basically said no at first due to the high volume of applicants and essays they have to go through…and this was during the ED1 round.

Gosh, that’s what I was worried about. But then I wish they didn’t tell me to go ahead and email it, it’s like getting my hopes up for nothing if they’re not going to bother reading it…

Should I maybe call like a week or so after I email the additional essay in, to ask if they received the email and had put it in my file or something?

I don’t see any college looking at a revised essay for your application after the deadline, unfortunately. A deadline is there for a reason. Wouldn’t be fair to consider your bigger, better, stronger essay after a few revisions if no one else had that chance.

I thought the same thing. But they told me to do so, why would they if they weren’t going to look at the essay? I just wouldn’t understand the logic there, if in fact they don’t, wouldn’t they have told me “No, the deadline has passsed you cannot do that”? All of the schools said yes and explained what to do, i’m thinking it’s because it’s so early after the deadline.
