The Schools:

(I would like to say that I have carefully considered each of these, and while some are very different, I am looking at each for separate reasons)

Oregon State University
University of Washington
Brown University
Yale University
Vassar College
Bowdoin College

I know that some of these schools are pretty much a roll of the dice, but it’s clear that some candidates aren’t cut out for them and some have a real chance. I’m just asking if I have that chance. There is, of course, no way for anyone to give an accurate guess, and I wouldn’t expect that, but I sincerely appreciate anyone other than myself giving some input.

Thank You!

@startearly Learn the facts. ACT 33 is not 97 percentile, it is actually near 99th percentile. Nevertheless, it is just among rhe average applicants for Yale, Brown, or other schools in that tear. The admission rate to these top schools are around 10% or lower. Do not promote any business here. If you get your information from that company, you wasted $400.

I know it’s in poor taste to bump, so I’ll only do this once, because I’m a little confused by the single response to a second… unknown response.

Your lack of awards/achievement isn’t optimal and your ECs are perhaps generic (enough for Vassar, maybe not for Bowdoin), but you are academically qualified for all of these - for Yale/Brown, you may want to consider raising your ACT (not that a 33 is bad, it’s just average) and submitting SAT subject test scores. Try to have your essay create a cohesive narrative (maybe emphasize the volunteering you’ve done?).

I am suspecting that the lack of response is because it is hard to give a meaningful answer.

My personal guess is that it is worth applying to the schools on your list. The first two look like safeties or matches, and the rest are reaches. However, I think that they are reasonable reaches and that you do have a chance. Hopefully you either have run the NPC, or have no financial constraints.

Sorry for the confusion. There was one early response that gave non sense information and tried to advertise a service. His post got removed by moderator. My response was towards him. Pardon my typos too which were from typing on my small touching sreen phone.

It is good to apply to a range of schools. However, you should easily get into the state schools you mentioned. Brown is probably a reach and I would probably not bother applying to Yale. I would concentrate on applying to several schools about the Vassar, Bowdoin, Brown level, and maybe some tougher state schools, like Berkeley/UCLA. Mostly, As, mostly APs, and the ACT scores are what top schools are looking for. Your ECs are OK, but do not stand out. Your SAT IIs (and to some extent AP exam scores) are important to whether you have a shot at somewhere like Brown.

Thinking about it a little more, the ECs are a little weak. You don’t mention AP exam scores, so they may be relatively weak too. Good SAT IIs would make your application much stronger for top 50 schools. Even so, Vassar and Bowdoin are probably reasonable. I would apply to a range of schools from about 20th to 100th ranked. Obviously, apply to schools you like and are fits for what you want to study. The two state schools you mentioned are fine for safes.
