So, I've taken the sat once and I got a 2300 (1500/1600). I know everyone says not to retake it, but part of me wants to for some reason.. maybe so I could have the benefit of superscoring or just because I like the sat. If I did this it would be in november or december. What are your opinions on this? Would a superscored, say, 2360, look better than a non-superscored 2300 if I managed to get it?

I can think of very few scenerios in which one should re-take a 2300; however, it would depend on the applicants CR and M scores coupled with the intended major.

For example: If you scored a M 700 CR 800 and W 800, but had your heart set on MIT or Cal Tech with a Mathmatics or Engineering major, I could build a case for a re-take.

Most students do better the second time (but not all).

Remeber that the SAT is only a small part of your application.

Best of Luck.

Like Glido said, only in SPECIAL situations where it is best to retake. Other than that…the difference would not matter much to colleges.

In this case it is a resounding no. You have good enough for any school. A higher score won’t help you. You can show that you have a sense of proportion and can set your priorities by spending your time on something that matters. Find some competitions to get involved in or anything else that shows that you have more depth and interests in your life.

As someone who got into MIT with M 700 CR 800 and W 800, I would agree with BrownParent. MIT would likely agree, as on the blogs they state that a 700 is just fine with them. A 2300 is good enough for any school, even if the scores are uneven.

Thanks everyone! Guess it would be pointless to retake it… I might end up doing worse anyway, haha. Btw I have a 730 CR/770 M/800 W so it’s kind of uneven but not dramatically.
