Would it hurt a prospective English major not to ask an English teacher for a rec?

Hi everyone,

I’m planning to major in English, and most of the schools I’m applying to require two letters of recommendation. I’ve already asked my Calc teacher, so right now I’m trying to figure which other teacher to ask. The problem is that I’m torn between my current English teacher and my Spanish teacher from sophomore year. I had (and still have) a good relationship with my Spanish teacher… I was quiet in her class but did well, and she helped me with applying for governor’s school. I’m also doing well in my English teacher’s class but not standing out exactly, and I’m not that close to her.

The only reason I wouldn’t ask my Spanish teacher is that I feel like it would be important as someone who wants to major in English to have a rec from an English teacher. Is this true?

If someone has any kind of advice or opinion, I’d love to hear it.

Yes, few people coordinate their letters with planned on majors. Best to choose someone who knows you well.
