Would Johns Hopkins accept a C?

Hi, I am currently thinking about applying to Johns Hopkins ED.

I go to a "Magnet" high school (a STEM program school) and it is pretty well-known to have really rigorous courses.

However, I got a C in my first semester of Calculus (which was during my sophomore year).

Would Hopkins not accept me simply because I have a C on my transcript? My GPA is not too great either (3.60 UW)

Oh oops I forgot to mention-- my strongest part of my application is my extracurriculars/experience.

I just want to know if admissions would dismiss my application once they see a C

likely not, john hopkins isn’t that selective. a 3.6 UW gpa would normally cause some concern, but you go to a magnet school so it’s likley not that bad.

Actually, it depends on the high school. (TJ? PM me) A 3.6 UW was still low for where i went (stem magnet) and would likely not get you into john hopkins (dependent on weighted GPA of course showing course rigor). However, they will not dismiss your application just because of one C. Even the “Ivies” if you get a C and the rest of your grades are stellar will still look at you, especially if you have a circumstance behind the C.

Our HS only sends the final grade on the transcript so they may not even see a grade for one semester.

Exactly, even if your school uses semesters, you should double-check that they actually send semester grades. Normally only year-end grades are sent.

My son has a D for a full year course, and he is applying to a few Ivies and top schools. I had a D and got into two Ivies. I would not worry about it too much.
