Would living in the Radisson ostracize me?

So I was looking over my housing options today and I figure the sooner I get this done the better, and at first I wanted to live in Fluor, but it looks outrageously far away from just about everything, and considering I'm not one to work out, its proximity to the fitness center isn't too intriguing. I don't want to live in New/North because I'm far from a partier and I saw the Radisson and it really looks like a nice option, but I worry, would I be totally separated from the rest of the students, even if its just across the street, and would I get any sort of college experience at all? Or should I just bite the bullet and live in Marks or Trojan or down in Parkside?

If you don't want the party environment of New/North (which isn't all that crazy...I lived there last year), I'd recommend Birnkrant, Pardee, and Marks Tower (in that order). Living off campus in the Radisson is very fun according to some people I've talked to...but still...it's a hotel, and I, personally, wanted to experience the dorm life.

I know a ton of kids that lived in the Radi freshman year, and all of them LOVED it...there really arent any bad choices for freshman housing.

Is it just like regular hotel rooms or what, cause I was thinking that theres only one desk and drawer set and i mean it seems kinda cramped for 2 people.

D is currently residing in the Raddison. I can tell you it is MUCH larger than the dorm rooms. There are 2 desks (my d actually has an extra large desk) not sure how that happened, 2 3-drawer chests, 1 large armoire, and a very large closet. Also, every room has their own private bathroom complete with shower and bathtub. D is on the highest floor that the dorm rooms go to and she has a wonderful view of USC, the Shrine, and the Hollywood sign. You also have heat and air conditioning at your fingertips. You will not feel left out from anything! There are 5 floors of students and approximately 50 on each floor. For that matter, it is very much like a dorm. Unlike dorm rooms, you can't really prop your door open because they are heavy (like all hotel room doors) unless you use a brick. :) D has been VERY happy at the Raddisson and has many friends there. D is not a partier either and this was a good choice, although many people at the Raddison do like to party. Lemme know if you have any other q's on the Raddison.

Don't quote me on this, but when I went with my daughter to one of the Explore USC/scholarship events in Feb, I recall hearing that with the new residence halls/suites expected to be ready this summer, the Radisson would no longer be used from Fall 2007.

dashcart - they changed their minds on that one. now they're offering the radisson but not century to freshmen.

Momoney77:
Can you order room service in the Radisson?

No you cannot. :( However, there is a gift/snack shop in the lobby and they will run a tab for you. I know, cause every time I go there they stop me and ask if I can pay her tab. :p

It's nice having the snack shop there cause they sell advil, and all sorts of odds and ends so she doesn't have to go out if she needs something small like that.

The elevators are a little slow.....

Are floors co-ed?

Floors are co-ed, but rooms are not! Floors are co-ed because each room has its own private bathroom.

D is in the AROTC and the room diagonal from hers is occupied with a guy in the NROTC. She actually went to the Navy Ball with him.

A co-ed floor is really great because you can hang out with whoever you want.

i have a few friends in the Radi, and it seems like they form their own little tight knit community...they hang out with people in other dorms, sure, but not as much as other people on campus.

also, Fluor's not that far from everything...the map and maybe even a tour of the campus would make it seem like that, but it isn't that bad. Fluor's a great place though, i have a few friends there who love it. except for the Radi (which is cut off from campus by one of the major thoroughfares in LA), i'd say for the most part, the location of the dorms doesn't matter as much on such a small campus like USC's.

Marks (Hall) and Trojan...of all the dorms on campus, those are probably the only real ones where i would generally say if another option exists, take it. the people there are great, yeah, if a bit quieter and more studious, but facilities aren't too great...if you value being with studious people more than great facilities and a little more excitement, the honors dorms might be fine for you. Parkside's great, not as quiet and studious as the honors dorms. and like 2+2 said, don't count out the other "in-between" options like Birnkrant, Pardee, and Marks Tower (i'm in Marks Tower...not too bad haha).

wow i would love to live in a hotel..is the radisson a lot more expensive than dorms?

I think Radisson is around $3500 per semester.

I'm sorry if I'm hijacking this thread, but as a Marshall student, are there really many advantages at North Residential College? Because the 'Living at USC' brochure talks a lot about the "business/special interest community"... what's life like at North Residential?

It be fun. It much fun. You have fun. Tadaa.

um, okay...

Even though he's being silly, sfgiants is right. My 1st s had MUCH fun there and told my 2nd s he had to live there (new/north=same thing).

My S loved living in the Great Outdoors Floor in Pardee. He's not too much of a partier either & would rather be able to go to & from the party instead of living with the noise of frequent parties.

Most freshmen are pretty happy with their housing, regardless of where they end up.

When do we find out what housing we will be assigned?

I don't know too much about housing, but I put 1. radisson 2. elizabeth (New, w/sink, double), 3. Harris Residence Hall (w/ sink, North, double) 4. Pardee double 5. Trojan Hall Double

Are those good choices?

Also, have you guys selected roomates/meal plans? Or can we only do that after we are assigned where to live?
