would moving across the country during senior year effect my college admissions?

So my family is thinking about moving across the country. But it would mean I couldn’t be president of any of the clubs I am in or do some of the other activities since I would be a senior and it would be to late to establish clubs. Do you think colleges would understand this?

Any advice would help, thanks.

We moved across the country the middle of our ds’s jr yr. it didn’t hurt his applications.

Our current sr is doing exceedingly well with her applications and has never been the president of any club. She really isn’t part of any club to begin with. Her ECs are uniquely hers. They are what she loves and wants to do not only now, but probably for years and years to come. They aren’t for creating an image or an application. They are an extension of who she is.

Focus on your strengths and passions. I don’t know if I am confusing you with someone else or not, but if golf and flying are your interests, keep focusing on those. You can take what you love and turn them into your outside of academics focus. It isn’t a formula of x number of leadership roles and y number of volunteer hrs. It is about who you are and how you function outside of a classroom. What do you do that matters to you and how does it impact the world around you?

We moved in November 2016. Our oldest is a senior and just got accepted to his first choice school. And I gave birth in September 2016 so our DS not only packed, cleaned, painted inside & out of or old house, took care of the nearly 2 acres yard, while he took his homeschooling courses and dual enrollment class, got straight As and took ACT and got 36 on English and Science. Oh and filled out applications too. It’s actually good to move to show you can overcome any situation!

We moved before our oldest entered her junior year of HS and again when our next child entered his junior year of HS. We are close as a family and thought our “squad” mentality would make the transitions smooth for all. Reality is moving before your senior year, arguably your hardest semester, is going to put a lot of stress on you. Colleges will understand it and understand why you didnt get that senior year leadership role, but as understanding as they are, if everything else is the same between you and another applicant, it could work for you, showing you have already dealt with transition and resettling; on the other hand, it could work against you, if it is a school that doesnt take as much time to weigh the individual human behind the numbers and decides the leadership title the other applicant has over you is the deal breaker. Since you have no control over that, what you can control is how you go into the change and your attitude getting through it.It will be hard but it is survivable. Good luck!

It varies from case to case depending on the individuals. Some of my HS colleagues moved but still they manage to secure results with…
