Hey all,

Putting the grades aside, I want to know if the Oberlin atmosphere would be a good match for me, and if I should put Oberlin on my list of colleges to consider applying to.

I'm a junior in highschool, white, female. I tend to consider myself a little quirky. I consider myself very mature for my age and don't conform to typical high school "rules" that everyone else feels that they need to follow to fit in. I don't care about my reputation enough that I feel I need to conform. I also consider myself very insightful, especially when it comes to psychological issues (I want to major in Psychology). I love giving advice and doing volunteer work; I have an innate desire to help people, therefore I need to be in a community where people are loving and accepting as well as a little bit eccentric.

I'm also a bit childish in the sense that I never really wanted to grow up. I still enjoying swinging on the swingset and sliding down the slide. I still know the name of every one of the original Pokemon. I still love playing Polly Pockets with my little sister, even if she's pretty much grown out of them. And I love other people who are like this and are not afraid to admit it. I also care about what I wear. I like to wear eccentric things, like bright colored jeans and crazy leggings. But I never go overboard. Sometimes I dress like a hippie. I'm very spiritual but not much of a party girl, and I never, ever drink alcohol (my mother and my grandparents are alcoholics). I'm also the kind of girl who stops liking something once it becomes popular because I always like to be unique and different (yes, I know it's annoying when people do that!).

So that is basically it. I am just looking for a friendly and eccentric community. Does Oberlin sound like a good fit? Sorry if it sounded like I was bragging at any point.
