Usually there's a School of Engineering and a School of Arts and Science (within the university). Applying for chemical engineering will put you in the group applying to the School of Engineering and chemistry will put you in the Arts and Science school. Typically, it's harder to get into the School of Engineering than Arts and Science.

So would that mean that if I apply for School of Engineering, and I am not able to be accepted to that school, does that mean I dont get accepted to that University?
