Ok so I had two ECs on my application that I had put down that I would be continuing senior year. I submitted my ED/EA application before officially joining either of these clubs (they’re the casual “new members always welcome” type of student-run clubs), however due to personal reasons was never able to join/commit to either of them and a few weeks ago decided that I most likely would not be doing so in the future. I’ve had A LOT going on these past few weeks and am in the midst of a family crisis and college was the last thing on my mind so I never notified the schools I applied to that I wouldn’t be continuing those clubs like I said I would, although tbh for the majority of that time it was still up in the air if I was going to rejoin the two.
Last week I found out that I got into Boston University ED, and withdrew my other apps since I knew I didn’t have any financial issues that would require me to not accept. I know lying on an application is considered legitimate grounds to rescind admission, so I plan on meeting with my guidance counselor on Tuesday (the earliest we could meet), since circumstances at home play a role in this, and then notifying admissions about the changes in my ECs.
The two ECs are not the only one’s I’m doing senior year, however they are the only ones I put down on my application that are with my school. I’m worried that this might raise some red flags since I’m “quitting” (or really just not joining) right after being accepted. My ECs were also probably the weakest part of my application. Like I had some unique ones (learning languages outside of school and being a self taught musician, the former which I’m sure had a lot to do with my acceptance which I’ll be continuing this year, along with being selected for a French exchange program in April, which I’ll still be doing), but very little community involvement.
Do you think this will cause them to reconsider my admission? Or maybe even revoke it? Or do you think they’ll be more sympathetic if my guidance counselor makes a vouches for my reasons for not joining them. My grades haven’t dropped because of this, if that makes any difference.
