I got into ucla for fall 08. My provisional contract is as follows:

- You must complete the following course(s) with a grade of B or better:
spring 2008 - 21 transferable units as reported on online

I took 21 units this past spring. Not exactly easy. Heavy workload.

My grades:
English 102...A...3 units
Philosophy 1...A...3 units (I previously got a FAIL in this class for personal reasons, UCLA knew about it before they accepted me)
Calc I...A...5 Units

Bad Grades:
Org Chem...C...5 units
Bio 7...C...5 units

I have 70+ units and junior standing this coming fall 08. Hmmm, now the thing is the classes that I got C's in, I did not need at all. I already fulfilled my IGETC in those areas, nor did I need it for prereqs for my major. The classes that I did need, Eng and Phil, I got A's in. I see students here fretting over getting a D in a class they needed for their Igetc or prereq, where their provision says they must attain a C or higher. Ive heard some responses say...one D is ok, and maybe they will make it mandatory for you to take it over the summer( at least i think so). Or some type of probation. But in my case, I technically passed all my classes. And did get A's in the classes I needed the most. I could walk away from this spring with the benefit of at least experiencing and handling a real heavy workload, does that not look a bit good on my part, entering a prestigious university? I dunno how I would break the news to my family if I get rejected.. And I am taking the Women studies 10 course they want me to take right now, during summer.

BTW...my finals for the Ochem class and Bio class conflicted...got lost what to study for more...bombed both exams. I will try to make an attempt to talk the professors into giving me the B, but donno how possible it may be. Has anyone heard of or been in this type of situation? Thankyou all.

they wont take it back unless you got below a C, so dont worry too much.
First thing you do though is you call admissions and you def. call your department ( whatever you got into) and talk to them. DOnt be scared, and take in good advice( make sure they dont ******** you)
You got no Cs and I didnt calculate your GPA but the person above say 3, so you should be fine.

What major were you accepted as? I respect that you wanted the benefit of knowing what it's like to take a heavy workload but to take two tough science courses and possibly jeopardize your admission wasn't very smart IMO. But I think you'll be fine as long as it doesn't dip to anything lower than a C.

thanks for all the comments guys...I got in as a Women Studies Major. There is only one prereq for the major and UCLA allowed me to take it right now during summer. But I hope you guys read my provisional contract thoroughly, at the end it says B or higher lol whereas in the beginning of the provision it says C or above in all IGETC...kinda confusin, but I think there is more emphasis on the "B" thing more than anything.

Oh sorry, I completely missed that part. Hopefully they mean "B" average though. But who are we to say if you're going to get your admission revoked or not, so let them know ASAP!

yah i might change my major down along the line...maybe sociology. But I know changing majors isn't too easy at first, but if your persistent and annoy the crap out of them, they will eventually change it. Why I took the extra units? Well I got an A in Chem 101. Got an A in Chem 102. And got a B in Bio 6. I thought what the heck, might as well continue. But it seems it bit me in ass.

According to assist.org, Sociology and Psych transfer majors at UCLA MUST be admitted into those majors. Both of those programs are fairly competitive at UCLA. I think the threshold for getting admitted is quite a bit above a 3.0.

Opusink, I went to the transfer admission agreement for my CC and here is what it pulls up at the top of the page when I pull up the Sociology Articulation Agreement:

"Listed below are the lower division preparation courses for the major. All
courses must be taken for a letter grade. The Sociology Department requires that you complete all major preparation courses except Sociology 20 prior to
transfer. Transfer students must be admitted as Pre-Sociology majors in order to major in Sociology."

Notice the last sentence. It says something similar on the articulation agreement for Psych. Not sure if they would let you switch anyway, but that is what it says on my articulation agreement.
