Would you rather go to the same in-state school as most of your high school's graduates or would you rather go to a school far away where no one else is going to? and why?

I want to go to a school far away where no one else is going. I hear that A lot of the schools that the kids from my high school go to are just bigger versions of my high school. I want something different, where I can start over again. The ideal situation would be to have 1 person from my h.s. at college with me.

My high school experience is fine, but there are very few people that share the same interests as me. So although I am able to have friends and everything, going far away would provide me with opportunities to meet people that I have more in common with.

I agree with both of you.

I agree with all three of you. The mere thought of starting w/ a blank slate is amazing. Plus, in making friends, unlike at your high school, people don't have preconceptions about you. For example, when I was younger, I was fairly annoying, stuck-up, nerdy, hard-to-deal-with. Now, I do have friends, but sometimes it's awkward with some people. College is going to be fun.

Assuming that they're exactly the same otherwise, I would go to the closer, in-state school, just because I, unlike many others, actually like my state.

I've loved the high school experience. I've had the best of two worlds; I've done the partying and the homework. What frustrates me, however, is that I don't know very many people who can balance the two. I end up spending all of my academic time with kids who have no idea about life (I realize that it seems as if I'm equating partying to life here...I'm just generalizing) and all my party time with kids who are just foolish.

Anyway, I digress. The judgments, close proximity, and fakeness is unbearable. I have a lot of acquaintances, but not a lot of genuine friends. I really fee like I can't wait to get as far away from everyone at my school as possible.

farrrrrrr away. i've made friends in high school and enjoyed it and all that, but i need to get away. i need to branch out and meet people who haven't grown up in a world virtually identical to mine.

(and i hate new jersey. :))

It doesn't matter. Most of my friends would probably not even make it into the in-state school.

I would go out of state even if my "dream college" was in my state.

Far away, I really don't like the state I'm in now (CA), and preferably am going to New England, or maybe Washington.

Farrrr. I love my state and high school, but...well, I think I need to get away from my smothering family. I know that I won't be able to make my own mistakes and grow from them with my parents within five hours of me...

i'd like to go far away: a) because i think it would be good to experience a new place. b) i've been w/ the people at my school for EIGHT YEARS!!!-i really need to get away from them and meet some new people... :p

I made this decisions years ago. I'm not staying in-state unless I get rejected at every single OOS school that I applied to. High school friends aren't worth a compromise in educational opportunities and standards. That, plus the fact that I desperately need to get out of Florida ASAP!

Um like 50% of the kids at my school end up going to the local jr. college. Definitely wouldn't want to do that. And most of my friends are planning on going to out of state schools anyway. I've always looked forward to going to a college out of state and starting on a clean slate. Not that high school is that bad, but I'm looking forward to college a lot more. :)

I think it's funny how we all want to get away from our state. My friends and I personally want to go to FL or CA or New England somewhere, but some of the above posters say they can't wait to get out of there.
