if someone tallied up all the acceptances of CC users at various colleges and calculated a separate acceptance rate for people who come here? I bet it's a lot higher than the general rates! For example I bet the acceptance rate of CCers who applied to USC was well over 50%, rather than the regular 24%. Well just a thought I was having.

yea that would be cool...but then you have to take into account all of the people that stop posting if they didn't get into the schools of their choice...

using the stats profiles and excel it can be pretty quick and easy. For USC class of '11, 72 reported they were admitted, while only 7 said they were rejected (91% accepted).

Some other quick comparisons, class of '11:
Harvard: 40 accepted, 21 waitlisted, 51 rejected (36%)
MIT: 31 accepted, 7 waitlisted, 38 rejected (41%)
Williams: 19 accepted, 15 waitlisted, 5 rejected (49%)
Georgetown: 30 accepted, 8 waitlisted, 14 rejected (58%)
UCB: 70 accepted, 20 rejected (78%)

of course these seem high even for CC. I suspect those accepted may be a bit quicker to update their profiles than those rejected

Yes, but rejected people are naturally less likely to report their result than are admitted students...

yes. and I said that.

but I don't knwo if it's all that inaccurate, since while updating other colleges, they'll likely take the extra two seconds to click on their status at the other universities

bahahahah dcforme thank you!! but i guess what you said is true. i probably wont be quick to post when i find out which colleges reject me. but really according to this thing i now have a likelier chance of getting into harvard than wesleyan hahaha!

And keep in mind that CC is NOT representative of the general population of college applicants (or their parents)....There's a much higher number of people who are applying to competitive schools (and have the SAT and grades to go with it)....self-selection; people who are most apt to get into top colleges or get merit awards migrate to CC more naturally than the "normal" student, IMO.

i think there should be an option in the profile to add every school you are applying to then post your admission decision.

i feel the ap stats creeping in me at this moment shudders

it's definitely a correlation, but we all have to remember the difference between correlation and causation... not everyone who just goes on CC is going to have a better chance

janetlover, there is.
