if I am above average in academics compared to most Cali students and most students at my school, but not “supreme/ubersmart” kid when compared to some students at my school (ranked third in Cali). How do I stand out besides having pretty good ECs?

Can Recs and essays have a major effect in one’s application for example Brown who supposedly weighs a lot on personality? I don’t understand what “personality” means in those terms. also, how do ppl know what some schools look for such as the “personality” which is crucial when it comes to Brown applicants (compared to other ivies)

I don't think Brown looks for a particular personality, just that you have a distinct one. That's probably what the "passion" is all about when your compiling your application. If you have something that shows you're focused, that usually says something about you as a person.

I dunno. I'm perhaps one of the most unusual people out there, had great grades and recs and i still didnt' get in. You need to be "a good fit" but you have to have the grades and SATS. Personality only goes so far. And it aint a marathon.
