Wow, Found out too late

I''m a Mechanical Engr.

I am taking a Materials Science class this semester and I got back my test, in which I did not do so well on. However, I recently added a Petroleum emphasis to my major, and I just checked my major requirements again, and it turns out I don't need the class at all!

If I drop the class, I will get a W (withdrew) on my transcript. Is it ok if I drop it or is it frowned upon?
I can always explain that it was due to the class not being required if anyone asks right?

I've heard it time and time again that one (or even a few) W's won't kill you, even if you plan on going to grad school.

SWEET!! Thanks a lot
Yes I do plan on grad school

Yeah, especially if it's not required. Withdraw, it's better than a C. Besides, not a whole lot of companies look at your transcript. They more or less want to know if you got the degree and that's it (maybe your GPA). Grad school would be the only kicker, and it doesn't sound like that matter either.

Withdrawals mean nothing. Especially when you have a non-academic reason for dropping the class.

It likely won't matter either way.

Any guidance councelor will tell you that most students drop A class during their college career. Of those students, many move on off to medical school, law school, etc.

The key is not to let it become a regular habbit i.e. drop a class every semester or every year.

If it happens once or twice, no big deal.
