Wow i'm pretty sure im not getting into Upenn...

So i just submitted my application to UPenn which is one of my top choices...and i screamed when i just realized I made a horrible mistake.

Well i was making last minute changes to my optional Upenn essay, and when i tried to reload my optional essay. I must have accidentally clicked my Williams College essay because the documents were near each other in my folder!!!

and i already submitted my supplement!

So is there anything i can do? should i call or email admissions?

Or am i pretty much denied at Upenn already?

I would email your admissions counselor ASAP, attaching the correct essay as well as copying and pasting it with an explanation of what happened. I had issues with my second rec getting in on time, and when I emailed my counselor about the situation, he was very understanding and, inferring from the end result, did not hold it against me.

Yeah, Excursions method is probably the best way. They’ll probably understand.

I hope everything works out well! :/

thanks guys…maybe there is some hope.

but do you know where i can find the email addresses for my regional admissions counselor?
i looked on the site but all i found was the phone numbers of all the regional admissions counselors.

try this page to find the email address:

https://medley.isc-seo.upenn.edu/directory/jsp/fast.do

ok thanks! im starting to feel a little better…

i felt like total crap 2 hours ago…you have no idea…

Out of curiosity, is the Williams essay about the college (like why you want to go there), or is it generally about you?

the williams college essay actually was very general…just kinda about looking out a window and picturing an environment in which you will be in the future.

but the problem was that i mention williams college in the essay twice. so i totally freaked out.

but yeah im going to email my regional admissions counselor explaining the mistake. hopefully they will understand

It’s a completely honest mistake. I’m sure it’s happened many other times. The best thing to do would be to call the admissions office immediately and calmly explain your problem. In all the excitement and hype of applying to colleges, I’m sure they’ll understand and allow to electronically submit, or mail another essay to them. Best of luck to you!

just make sure the penn essay u intended to send is not the same as the williams one except with penn written instead - they wont like that

haha dot510…no they wouldnt like that.

but yeah the penn and williams essay are completely different, so it wouldnt really work.
i took my time with my essays.

I did the same thing with my Harvard Common App essay (I submitted the second week of December) and didn’t notice until YESTERDAY when I was submitting my other applications and going over them. Then I realized that I submitted the wrong additional info to Princeton and Dartmouth after submitting those.

It took me a lonnnggg time to get to sleep haha. Just call the admissions office when they open, I don’t think it’ll be a big deal. It’s an honest mistake.

just email them. they know you will be applying to other schools too. as long as the essays are not the same you’ll be fine.

yeah i emailed them yesterday…just have to wait til Jan. 5 to get a response cause thats when the admissions office is open again.
