From what I gather, great kids (Americans included) were rejected out of the blue because they asked for financial aid, even though Columbia was supposed to be need-blind for US citizens and permanent residents.

So if MIT, unlike Columbia, is true to its words, I won't expect another Boston Massacre. MIT's murders will be much more rational. People will know why they're rejected, unlike Columbia where people have completely no idea.

Just to give you some hope, College Confidential definitely had a much higher percentage of MIT EA admits last year, so hopefully it will work out the same this year. I talked to a friend who works in the admissions department today, and he said the counselers were really, really busy finishing up all of the EA applications. Best of luck to y'all!

But "barely" doesn't mean "never", especially to the crazed and hysterical and sometimes slghtly irrational people who are waiting for their decisions.

honestly, the chances of you getting rejected early are so slim, it's about zero. If you are at CC stressing out about admissions, you aren't the one who would get rejected early.

I am sure they will not advertise it
but MIT is famous of its need-blind admissions
and I think they will stick to their words
I am just curious about your opinion

Well, I thought that MIT was not need-blind when it came to international admissions. Maybe I'm confused with someone else, but I really think that is the case. As far as the mailing date goes, I thought they didn't mail the decisions until the 15th, at least that is what they did last year. I'm afraid I haven't been keeping up with the admissions process anymore though :).
Good luck everyone! Don't be scared of being rejected, it's an anomaly and only happens to students who just have no chance at all of getting in, and from what I have seen there is no one on this board who would fit into that category. Also, don't be bummed with a deferral. I was deferred EA, and I thought that it was all over, but they ended up accepting me RD! It has been the same story with almost every other EA applicant I have talked to. Well, be optimistic, don't stress out, have a great week, and good luck!

MIT is need-blind, so is Columbia. The only reason people are coming onto the boards claiming Columbia is not need-blind is that they've seen some people with high stats on the Columbia board get rejected who happen to have asked for financial aid. There are many variables in admission. Any number of them could have affected the decision outside of requesting aid.

My son asked for aid at MIT and got in. Unfortunately he didn't get any aid except work study and a small loan, but we didn't think we'd qualify anyway. I don't know about international financial aid.
