My sister told me about this kid she knew who was talking about he is going to drop out of his current highschool, and reapply in another high school. But he wants to like start off from scratch, like freshmen year. Right now he is a sophomore....just because he had a low gpa for his freshmen year... he's asian though so that might have something to do with it.. but yeah.. just shows you how seriously kids are taking high school.. he sounds like someone that would belong to collegeconfidential

Oh yeah, could someone prove my sister wrong. She says that this kid could do this, but I doubt he can... since he already has records in one school.. whos right?

I've done that for middle school...several times. I don't see a reason why someone wouldn't be allowed.

You should tell him that GPA can be overlooked with other solid years, good SAT, good community service/extracurricular:)

Really, you actually went to a middle school like finished 7th or 8th grade then switched to another school and did those years ago? Why did you do it though?

Do colleges even look at freshmen grades?

Some don't, but it is included in your gpa.

I was advanced five years and wanted to go back so I'd get more mature, then I went back further. It was like 3rd, then 8th, then 6th, then 6th, then 7th, then 8th, a lot of this at different schools. So I ended up doing both 6th and 8th grade twice, and Algebra I four times. Yes, it's strange and much more complicated than this. In retrospect I'm glad it happened this way because had I not gone back I wouldn't have understood half the stuff taught in my classes.

I'd recommend it for the Asian kid if it's something more than the low GPA -- like he suddenly got better study skills or had a change of heart or something. Then repeating the year can really help. Lots of times it's good to REALLY understand the material from one year before progressing to the next.

I'm a junior right now, but i wanted to repeatmy freshman year soo bad. if it was offered to me now, i would totally doing. besides starting school a year early, i am really young looking compared to a lot of juniors, i think i would fit in better a year (or two) earlier...

"Some don't, but it is included in your gpa."

Are you serious, I never knew this.

so how old will you be when you graduate fizix?

I hope they look at freshman year...that's the only year I got all A's.

But isn't that unfair for other students. Like he could get a second chance in high school and retake his classes and get straight a's. Or does his old school's records stay with him even if he doesn't give it to his new school.

there's a record he went there i know that for sure and they'll wonder why he's graduating so late and the gap years

Oh, so he would still have his grades from his old school? Even if he didn't show his new school his transcript? I was even little tempted there for a second... sounded too good to be true. But then again I'm a junior so repeating another 2 years doesn't sound too appealing.

Sixteen. (10 char)

"there's a record he went there i know that for sure and they'll wonder why he's graduating so late and the gap years"

Isn't the record only in his old school or do schools have access to a students stats no matter what school he went to? Do you mean "they" as in colleges or the new school he is going to go to. (BTW sorry for all these questions, it is actually my sister's boyfriend so she is making me help him)

bump........

fizix - You were supposed to start High School at age 7, and graduate at 11?

I was supposed to start at 9 and graduate at 13...which is bizarre.
