"WOW" you went there? L@@K?

What are some good undergraduate schools to go to besides the IVY leagues that will get " WOW you went there" . That are good for premedicine?

Figure it out yourself, you're not brainless.

Lol...:)......LOL

I would suggest picking a school because you like the atmosphere and not because it will elicit a "wow" from others.

comeone simply answer him
John hopkins - Duke - Stanford - Emory are "WOW" :)

I'd also put Rice on the list....not exactly wow to the common public, but it's still a great school admissions-wise.

This is too subjective. Emory would evoke a yawn from me and not a wow.

It's JohnS Hopkins and it gets more than a Wow... more like a "Hot DAMN is your whole entire body populated with brain cells? When are you going to cure cancer?" and umm the ladies they just fall in line and wait for you to talk to them, even glance in their general direction. Men envy you, and women worship you (and vice versa for women). And it's all because of the letter "S" after the john. Johns Hopkins University.
It's the truth.

WOW! YOU WENT THERE?!

I'm gonna go apply there too! Because that's what I want in a school!

WOWIE WOW WOW WOW!

Simply put: Vanderbilt. We are a top university and the reason why Nashville is considered the Athens of the South. We have the Parthenon across from our university. Also, with some retooling efforts, we are going to move up in ratings. We are instituting a Yale-like program whereby all first-years will be housed in a common place. The thing is, Vanderbilt is basically southern aristocrats. When I tell people I go to Vandy, they ask if it's a family tradition. To not be a legacy at Vanderbilt is pretty impressive if for no other reason than the exorbitant cost of attendance. Thank whatever diety I believe in (if any) that I got a scholarship. In the South, Vandy is king. UVA is pretty well-thought-of, also. Duke is there, but unfortunately there is too much crap in that research triangle to call attention to it.

Bob Jones University

You'll get wows guaranteed. more than ANY ivy!

MIT, Stanford, and Caltech have the wow factor. However, MIT and Caltech may not be the best places to go for premed, relative to peer schools.

Certain foreign universities, notably Oxford and Cambridge, also definitely have a wow-factor, and are also probably good places to go for premed.

Vander-what? lol just kidding.

Sorry if that offended you but I personally wouldn't give Vanderbilt a wow factor.

The College of New Jersey is definitely considered a good school by admissions on the East Coast. It's recently been added to the 'Most Selective' category of undergrad colleges along with Princeton, Harvard, Yale, etc. The science department is particularly difficult at TCNJ, so doing well there is respected. TCNJ also has a 7 year BS/MD program with UMDNJ, which I love...didn't do the 7 year program but plan to apply to UMDNJ. I majored in Psych and am currently applying to Post-Bac Pre-Med Programs to finish getting the pre-reqs for med school. (so don't fret even if you don't have time to finish the pre-med pre-reqs in college, you can do a program to get them, and certain programs have almost 100% acceptance rate into med school).

Beth

Again, it's very subjective.

Yes, if you're a NJ resident, TCNJ is very very affordable and very good in preparing its students for med schools.

But no, I don't think in the minds of most people, it ranks up there with a Princeton, Harvard, or Yale.

So I would definitely pick a school based on where I feel a comfortable. Take a tour, visit the faculty, visit the students, and if you can imagine yourself there, it's probably a good fit. I wouldn't poll people and pick the most "prestigious" school based on namesake.

I disagree with you about TCNJ. Away from the East Coast, people may not realize it's a very selective school, but on the East Coast, it is considered a 'Public Ivy', one of the most selective and best public universities in the country. As I stated, it was recently added to the 'Most Selective' category for undergrad colleges, putting it in the same category as Princeton, Harvard and others, in terms of difficulty. No, admissions may not be quite as difficult as the Ivies, but they are extremely difficult, and students with 1500+ SAT scores have been turned away. And UMDNJ and RWJ seem to regard TCNJ students very highly.

Beth

I would disagree with you about TCNJ being anywhere near the top colleges, i believe SUNY-Binghamton is a better public school, according to several rankings, and yet it is not nearly as competitive as even the top 40-50 schools. The most notable eastern publics are UVA and UNC-CH...they are truly competitive and respected public schools.

Beth, I agree with you that TCNJ is a great school but people with 1500+ SATs are not turned away unless they lack in every other area. The 'Most Selective' category is huge and cannot merit equal difficulty in comparison to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, etc. There were about 50 schools in that category. However, I do agree that TCNJ is a great school.

lampark, you indicate TCNJ is not a top public school, but how can you judge if you have not been there or attended? It is called a Public Ivy, and I firmly believe it is as competitive as UVA and others, and more so than SUNY. It may not be as prestigious as Harvard, but I believe the classes are as difficult, or if not equally so, then nearly as difficult. I won't bother to reply again about this issue, as I see no point in debating it endlessly, but wanted to reply this once.

Beth

im not saying it is not a good public school, im just saying i dont believe it is at the caliber that you believe it to be...it may be a top public but for the schools you are comparing it to such as harvard princeton and yale, i believe UNC-CH and UVA are much more comparable than TCNJ and other publics.

I also disagree with you about its overall prestige over SUNY-Binghamton, binghamton has a higher avg SAT, GPA, it also appears on the top national universities including private and public (TCNJ does not). It is also noted as a "Public Ivy" which you designate to TCNJ.
