TCNJ has a good share of 45's!!

Yea, sorry Beth, i'm in the northeast and I havent heard anything particularly notable about TCNJ. I think you are exaggerating its prestige.

And j567p..."share of 45's"? u better not be talking about MCAT scores...and if you are, that statement is only forgiveable if you are a naive HS student.

what is TCNJ?!?

sorry, i'm from Ohio, and i've never heard of it...(please don't bash me or get angry)

TCNJ has 0 reputation where i am.

TCNJ is The College of New Jersey

I would have to agree.

TCNJ = The College of New Jersey

and it's not even as well-known as another competing state school, Rutgers.

It may be very solid but it's not the catchiest name.

And I have yet to meet anyone with a 45 on the MCAT. I'd really like to meet a whole bunch of people who scored 45's at TCNJ. That would be something!

Never heard of TCNJ either.

Considering, the highest score in any one sitting is typically around 43, the largest congregation of 45's u'll find at any one school is probably one.

Put Northwestern on that list. 80% of premed applicants are accepted to med school, this is without any prescreening that schools like Johns Hopkins do.

Biff, can you post a link that shows tha 80% of NW premeds get into med-school?

I talked to someone about this amazing private school in florida, it may not be a wow school but since we are talking about percentage of students being accepted to medical school, 90% of the students are accepted.
The school is called Barry University and here is the proof: http://www.barry.edu/preMed/About/Default.asp

sakky,

I couldn't find any Northwestern premed data on the web either; so I called the premed advisor few months ago. She said it's been high 70s/low 80s in the past few years without any screening practice.

I think sakky has something against Northwestern. :)

I remember many old posts involving arguments between sakky and Northwestern's chemistry department........

I don't have anything against Northwestern. Indeed, I have often stated that Northwestern is one of the finest schools in the country. I would say that it is probably better to go there than to Chicago if you want to go to med school or law school.

I just don't believe that it has a top 5 OChem department in the country, simply because I think I can name at least 5 other departments that are better. For example, MIT, Caltech, Berkeley, Stanford, and Harvard.

Beth, TCNJ doesn't come close to any of the schools you mentioned. No one outside of NJ even knows about TCNJ.

I agree with what's been said above. TCNJ is definitely considered a solid public school here in NJ, but it has little rep outside of the state. It's nowhere near "Wow, you went there!" status. However, it does offer very generous merit aid, so it's a decent backup plan for students like myself.

How is Notre Dame, Boston College, or Wake Forest on the Pre-Med hierarchy???

Try Rice U. Over 90% acceptance to med school. I think it has a pretty good wow factor, at least in Texas!

hey jhoopster. i go to BC and i dont know how it ranks as far as pre-med but i can tell you as i go there that everything to do well is in place. you are surrounded by motivated students without the competition of an ivy so classmates will help u out as much as they can. not only that but BC, as well as Brandeis and holy cross, has an early acceptance program to tufts medical school and although Tufts may only be a top 40 med school, it is much easier to get into than regualr admission at any med school. all you need is a 3.5 gpa for your fist two years. if you have that and some sort of volunteer work, not much is required because youve only been in college for less than two years, you get an interview. if all goes well you are given a seat in their class following your senior year. you do have to take the MCATs but no minimus score is required, and you dont have to have a minimum gpa, just dont let it drop below a 3.3-3.4 According to tufts website they get about 35-40 applicants a year of which more than half, about 21-26 get interviews, of which more than half, 12-14 or so, are granted admission. That is about a 35% chance of admission as opposed to less than 10%. To conclude this long post, last year 11 people from BC applied for that program and 9 people received admission, the only 2 who were rejected had a sub 3.6 gpa.

hope that helped a little

Does anybody have a link that shows that Rice has an over 90% placement rate? Not that I'm saying that I don't believe it, it's more that I want to compile a list of websites that show these figures for various schools.

"Harvard Medical School could really wipe the floor with Stanford Medical School?"

who said that? sakky1 or sakky 2? underestimation of a great school is ignorance in my list.
