Writing an e-mail requesting alumni interview ?

Hi,
I am a prospective student. And have taken the contact information of alumni. I am confused as to how to draft an e-mail requesting one. Does it need to be very official. What kind of details do I need to give in an e-mail. Do I need to give them some sort of resume? Can you just give me an idea of the rough draft. I am sort of fretting about it, because it’s my first impression on the interviewer.
Thanks!!

Alumni interviews are assigned, not requested. Sometimes, there are not enough slots for applicants. Then you will not be interviewed. But it doesn’t diminish your chances.

Actually, at many schools applicants do request alum interviews through the admissions office. Rather than assigning interviews, school sometimes will provide a list of a few alums in the area with contact information. Then the applicant contacts the alums individually to request an interview.

Our D has done this recently for two top-tier LACs. Her email says something like “Dear ____, X college gave me your contact information on a list of alums in the Y area who are interviewing applicants this year. {a sentence about being excited to have the opportunity to interview, a sentence about why she decided to apply, a sentence about her location/schedule, contact info and an opening to get in touch to set up a time/place.}” It is written casually and without any resume, self reflection or bio. In both cases she had nice responses with 24 hours and set up interviews for the following week.
