On the MyROC portal, it says that a writing sample is recommended. Is this different from the commonapp.org writing sample or can I submit a creative writing piece or a research paper I wrote for school?
Yes, the writing sample is different than the commonap writing sample.
Submitting a research paper or other indepth essay analysis paper is fine. (The paper is used to determine if you need a remedial rhetoric/freshman composition placement.)
No creative writing.
So if I submitted a ten page research paper on the Armenian Genocide, would that work?
IIRC, they asked for a graded paper. I don’t think there was a restriction against creative writing. Aren’t there clear instructions on myROC?
So is the 10 page research paper okay? Do I have to scan the graded one in or can I just submit the ungraded one I have on my computer?
Read the instructions. In past years they said “graded”.
It doesn’t say anything. They changed the MyROC from last year. It just says “Writing Sample (recommended)”
I see. Then probably a call to your regional admissions officer would be a good idea. (A call will also be very helpful toward ‘demonstrated interest’ and to get you on their radar.)
