So I've been reading a lot about NYU through livejournal and here and if theres any message thats resonated it's "Ah!!Writing the Essay is a nightmare"

So to students who have already taken this course (correct me if i'm wrong but it's required of all students at NYU, whether you're in CAS or Steinhardt) how terrible was it? What makes it so bad? Did you enjoy any of it? What are some of the things the class teaches, or assignments assigned?

It's a LOT of writing (5-15 pages a week), and the quality of the teachers is very uneven. I enjoyed the Stern one, didn't enjoy the regular CAS one, and I'd say that's due in large part to having different teachers.

mattistotle what was so bad? what did you get? what is the most difficult part of the class and how is the class generally graded? 3 essays? What can one do to have an advantage?

I got a B first semester, though I got to take it p/f because of the strike. This semester B or B+. Hardest part is that the essays are always ambigious in what needs to be done, alot of the teachers are very poor (alot of TA's), and the essay is completely different than anything you've done before or will have to do after, unless you become a professional essayists.

Need help writing a thesis paper or research paper? (which every other essay you're going to write it going to be on)

well you ain't getting help in this class.

Median grade for the class is Bish

Advantage? I guess read mercer street and go to writing center.

i hope it won't be as bad as everyone is saying it is because I love writing esp. Creative Writing (and i know this is not creative writing, but its writing) and so i hope the class won't kill it for me
